Koos van den Akker | January-February 2002

From the beginning, Koos van den Akker, the Dutch designer and master of collage work, celebrated color, texture and individuality. American women discovered Koos in 1970 when he opened his first store in New York. Bold and beautiful combinations, from the abstract to the ephemeral, were exquisitely crafted into comfortable silhouettes, highly prized as one-of-a-kind pieces.

Drawing from the personal collections of loyal fans, this retrospective and sale showcased many of Koos’ best original designs. From a two-piece couture bridal dress in ecru lace, to a smashing silk kimono, shimmering with metallic silk collage.

Even before the fashion cognoscenti caught the Koos moment, middle America had been acquiring Koos via QVC, the home shopping network. The affordable "Koos of course!" collection was the number one selling fashion line on QVC in 2002.
